1965 Ford Mustang Convertible V8 Manual. 1965 was the first full year of production for the Mustang, and this is a rare 4 speed manual car, so many are automatic, but the manual is a lovely bulletproof gearbox, with bags of torque.
This particular car is a factory 289 Cubic inch V8 with the correct C Code in the Chassis number. It was restored in the USA within the last year with full bodywork where required, a full respray in the original Rangoon red (which was also the launch colour) and new upholstery and looks simply stunning, original in nearly every aspect, even down to the crossply red rim tyres.
The exterior of the Mustang is nice and straight with good panel gaps, and the paint has plenty of depth giving an excellent shine. The car has been fitted with a new white hood, which is power operated, and works exactly as it should, opening and closing with ease with the simple push of a switch. At the time of the restoration new bumper were fitted as well as much of the other chrome work. All the stainless around the glass is good as well as the grill and both door mirrors. The weather stripping and seals around the windows have also been replaced.
The inside is finished in classic black trim, which complements the exterior nicely. It has the correct bucket seats with new seat covers and door panels and a black hood tonneau cover. The dash is correct with the optional Rally-Pac which comprises a rev counter and clock, all of the dash gauges and lights work correctly and it has working wipers and washers. The car is fitted with a Mercury under dash air conditioning system which looks to be all present, but we have not tested it, as it would require adapting to accommodate the new eco-friendly air conditioning gasses.
Under the bonnet is powered by a 289ci V8 that has the stock intake and 2 barrel carb. It has alloy valve covers and a chrome breather. The exhausts exit through stock manifolds and single silencer pipes which gives the car a lovely deep roar, just like a Mustang should sound! The gearbox is slick and precise with no jumping out of gear, whines or chipped teeth, the car is fitted with an 8” rear axle, which works fine with no whines or problems.
The underside is superb, solid, and extremely clean and well presented, including floors, chassis rails and cross-members with no signs of any previous damage. The brakes pull up well, we have just fitted new brake wheel cylinders all round prior to submitting for an MOT. The car is now UK registered on an age related 1965 C registration, I have the V5 registration document, recent MOT and two sets of keys and all taxes are paid.
This is a great driver car that gets noticed and heard by everyone, it always attracts a crowd when parked with either the hood up or down.
I may accept a part exchange of car or classic car with cash either way as long as the figures are sensible.
